Transition Reminders Time is ticking away there are only 12 months remaining for the transition to the new ISO 9001/AS9100/AS9110/AS9120 standards. Organizations that are AS9100/AS9110/AS9120 and waiting on release of the new revisions should already have or are in process of implementing the ISO9001:2015 standards new requirements. ISO 9001:2015 is the base standard for all the newly revised and pending release AS series standards. This will aid in getting your organization prepared to achieve the transition deadline of September 15, 2018 for AS9100/AS9110/AS9120. ASACB audits are being performed to the new revisions of AS9100/AS9110/AS9120. If not transitioning during a recertification or surveillance audit then ASACB must calculate the minimum man-day requirement for a transition audit as a surveillance plus addition time for auditing the new standard revision.

Read More...Important Changes Affecting How YOU Get Your 8130-3 Tags ASA met with FAA to discuss access to 8130-3 tags. As you all know, revision 6 of the Maintenance Annex Guidance added a new receiving requirement for aircraft parts: all parts manufactured by US Production Approval Holders (PAHs) must bear 8130-3 tags. Although the requirement is technically limited to dual-certificated repair stations, it triggered a domino effect that has led many in the global industry to demand 8130-3 tags (sometimes demanding the tags on parts that are ineligible for such tags). Read More... DAR 56 Extended until August 2018 - Submit Your Request for Extension Now! The FAA has extended the Limited DAR-F program that allows certain employees of accredited distributors to issue 8130-3 tags for certain inventory known to have been produced by an FAA production approval holder (commonly known as the "DAR 56 program," reflecting the function code number). This is an important victory for distributors who rely on this program as a source of 8130-3 tags. Read More... ASA Petition to FAA to Extend the Limited DAR-F Program for Accredited Distributors Succeeds This memorandum provides a means where existing Limited DAR-F designees can continue exercising their delegation authorization through September 30, 2018. This extension will allow an existing Limited DAR-F to continue issuing an Authorized Release Certificate, FAA Form 8130-3, Airworthiness Approval Tag, through September 30, 2018, for new articles that were in the distributor's inventory prior to November 1, 2016. ASA will be meeting with the FAA about a long-term solution and other issues distributors face from the MAG 6. Additionally, several members are aggressively working with their Congressional reps and the FAA is back at the table talking about solutions.We will keep you abreast of new developments as they occur. IAQG Annual Meeting News The International Aerospace Quality Group is holding its annual meeting in Cleveland, OH on October 13-19, 2017. During October 13-18, 2017, all working groups will be in session. The general session will take place on October 19, 2017. Relevant Information Regarding Clarifications of the AS9100D/AS9110C/AS9120B Standards Certification bodies such as ASACB receive direction on standard matters several ways. One way is through update releases of the IAQG OPMT Resolutions Log. This log contains clarifications on requirements of the standards and/or how a certification body must execute audits. If you are interested in keeping up to date on these resolutions click on the link below: Relevant Information from the IAQG The AS9104-1 Requirements for Aviation, Space, Defense Quality Management System Certification Programs is still on track for re-starting efforts again in 2018 to update the document with new requirements and align the document with industry expectations. The expected release date is 2020. The below requirement was set to be further discussed on September 13, 2017 AAQG/RMC meeting in Nashville, TN. This meeting was cancelled due to the Hurricane Irma. ASACB will keep you updated as new information becomes available. "Minimum required on-site audit days for the transfer of a certification in good standing from one authenticated certification body to another certification body is not defined. A motion was put forth to the International Aerospace Quality Group regarding defining duration requirements for transfers. Proposed requirement for transfer done at time of surveillance audit is "1.5 days on-site for transfer audit and not less than 1.0 day for surveillance audit." If within 12 months of the certificate expiration then a special audit is required and that is to be no less than 1.5 days and then perform recertification audit time." NextGen OASIS Update It has been several months since the requirement to perform all audits to the new revisions of the AS9000 series standards and the use of NextGen OASIS to complete the audit documentation. We would like to provide feedback on this new system. ASACB auditors have expressed positive feedback on how much easier it is to perform audits using the new system and access to view and manage all their audits in one place. There were minor bumps in the road on the initial use and industry is continually correcting and updating existing and new features of the database per the request of the CB community users. These enhancements or new feature additions will only make NextGen OASIS stronger and easier to utilize. ASACB would like to point out a new feature in the upload and completion of audit non-conformances. The IAQG is utilizing OASIS NextGen as a data mining tool where value added reports can be generated on several pertinent matters. One of these areas is cause codes of audit non-conformances. The following cause code matrix has been added to the AS9101F NCR form 4. Please click on the folloiwng link for an expaned view of 9101 Form 4.  The IAQG is requesting all audited organizations to identify which cause-code is applicable to the issued audit non-conformances. This information will be complied and used on future reporting on industry trends. Please note certification bodies have been instructed not to hold up closure of a non-conformance if the cause code has not been identified. The accreditation bodies have also stated that they will not issue non-conformances against a CB’s process for non-conformance closure if this information is omitted. ASACB will request its certified organizations to supply this information to ensure data relating to this matter is factual and brings value to the industry. ASA Events!
Prevent HAZMAT Penalties - Register for on-line HAZMAT Training - October 11-12, 2017 ASA has once again collaborated with the Washington Aviation Group to provide re-current and initial Hazardous Material Training. The on-line class will offer one-day recurrent training and two-day initial training.
