ASA Files Motion for a Stay to Prevent FAA Enforcement of Mag Rev. 6 New Documentation Requirements

ASA held several conference calls last month with its Members explaining the impact of MAG rev. 6 new documentation requirements. Thank you to those members who participated and the members who submitted affidavits explaining the factual situation of 8130 Tags and aircraft parts inventories. ASA has filed a Motion for a Stay with the DC Circuit Court. ASA had more members wanting to submit affidavits then could be used in the Motion. The Motion for a Stay, if granted, would prevent the FAA-enforcement of these new documentation requirements. ASA will send a Member Alert if there are any new developments.

FAA Releases Three Unapproved Parts Notifications

These UPNs were released since the last Member Bulletin. The bulleted information is linked to the UPN. Read the UPN closely. Different offices within the FAA write these UPNs so there is different information in them. For example, look for may versus did; statements that FAA has confirmed that there was a problem versus FAA thinks there may be an issue. This note of advice is true for all UPNs not just these three.

Awareness About Reports of Ransomware Attacks

Past two weeks, ASA has received reports from three companies that their computers were taken over by hackers demanding ransom money before the hackers would release back the access to the computer data. Discuss this with your IT personnel. Make sure staff is aware of Ransomware Attacks.

ASA News:

Election for 3 Positions on the ASA Board of Directors

ASA's election process is detailed in the ASA Bylaws. The bylaws call for the members to elect the Directors from the persons nominated. This year, there are three nominated candidates for three seats. Yes, this ballot lists only three names, therefore these three candidates will be the newly-elected Directors. ASA is still obligated to transmit a ballot for election. Please note that ASA has increased the number of Directors from 7 to 11 Directors over the past few years. There have always been several candidates for the election. So why less candidates this time? One conclusion is that the overall increase in Directors may have covered the current interest level. ASA is pleased to have a strong Board and the Directors continue to work to make sure they represent the members and industry.

A ballot for the Board of Directors can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ASA2016BODELECTION. A short bio is included for each candidate. The election will close on August 19, 2016 at 5:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. One vote per Member Company. A member can select up to 3 persons for the Board of Directors.
